§ Comparative band

Two SHI trajectories on the same axis

Australia 1895–2026 Germany 1925–1945 Alarm (+3.0) Critical (+5.0)
Fig. C · Shield Hypertrophy Index — cross-country (ensemble mean, aligned by year)
Reading the band. Australia's 130-year SHI trajectory stays negative for almost the entire record — a Lore-Archive dominant society — and crosses zero only in the contemporary period (2015→). Germany's 1925–1945 SHI shows the canonical hypertrophy signature: a deep Weimar trough through 1929–32, a sharp positive break in 1933–34, robust crossing of the +5.0 critical threshold by 1935. Same axis, same definition, two structurally very different responses to early-20th-century shock. Read the case in Without Hindcasting.
